Working at Capitaine Train

Help us create a simple and painless train ticket buying experience.

About us

We have a simple but ambitious goal: to sell train tickets the best way we can, everywhere in Europe. Finding and booking a train ticket should be as simple as hopping a train.

Capitaine Train has been founded by 3 engineers obsessed by simplicity. Our organization is very simple and flat: those who make product decisions are the same who build them. We are a young and small start-up and we are growing quickly. Your work will have a direct and visible impact on the growth of the company.

Our beautiful offices are located in the heart of Paris (métro Poissonnière or Bonne-Nouvelle). We are surrounded by a lot of bars, restaurants, theaters and near the four main Parisian train stations. We offer a decent package including fixed and variable salaries, an awesome health coverage plan plus stock options.

Backend Engineer

You

Hipster-organic-pixel-UI-crafting is not really your thing. Your thing is to handle big data issues, to put your hands in the grease, to make it fast, and scale it. You are production-oriented. You are extremely reliable and your tests are here to prove it anytime. Refactoring legacy code or mocking dusty SOAP services doesn’t even make you raise an eyebrow. Last week hacker-news-yc-cool-kid-technology makes you smile, because you don’t buy this marketing, you want the source code, you want sustainability, and you want facts.

If this depicts you pretty well, we have a job for you.

Role

We need you to help us build Capitaine Train’s European Search & Book engine. Most of it is built in Ruby and Java.

You will handle technical relationships with the different carriers and make their engineers happy to work and innovate with you. You will face a large amount of challenges: exhaustiveness and quality of results, optimization of fares, particularities of each carrier, speed, scalability, while always keeping in mind the simplicity of the tool we are building.

Everyone has its own personal experience with trains and our customers love to share it with us: you will get a lot of feedback and you will help real people to solve their problems.
